Bridging Traditions
with the World
We exist to celebrate and preserve the extraordinary craftsmanship of Northeast India's artisan communities.
Why We Started
Northeast India — the "Seven Sisters" states and Sikkim — is home to some of the most extraordinary craftsmanship traditions in the world. From the golden Muga silk of Assam to the ancient Longpi pottery of Manipur, these are arts that have survived for centuries, passed down through generations.
Yet, many of these artisans struggle to reach markets beyond their immediate communities. Middlemen capture most of the value. Young people leave traditional crafts because they can't earn a living wage. Ancient techniques risk dying out.
We started NorthEast Handcrafted Treasures to change this. We work directly with artisan cooperatives and individual craftspeople across all eight states, ensuring they receive fair compensation while their products reach admirers worldwide.
Our Values
Authenticity First
Every product is verified for authenticity. GI-tagged products come with proper documentation. Each purchase includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Fair Trade
We pay artisans fairly — no middlemen, no exploitation. Our pricing ensures artisans earn sustainable incomes while keeping products accessible.
Sustainability
Most of our products use naturally sustainable materials — bamboo, cane, organic fibers. We promote eco-friendly packaging and carbon-conscious shipping.
Cultural Preservation
We document and share the stories behind every craft. A portion of proceeds goes toward training young artisans in traditional techniques.
🛡 Certificate of Authenticity
Every product purchased from NorthEast Handcrafted Treasures comes with a physical Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate includes:
- The artisan's name and community
- State and region of origin
- Materials used and crafting technique
- GI Tag information (where applicable)
- A unique product identification number
- Care and maintenance instructions
For high-value items like Muga Silk and Thangka paintings, we also include third-party verification from recognized craft councils.
